Match Preview v Morton (home)

Oct 22 2021 18:39

Our second round of fixtures get underway tomorrow as we welcome Morton to Palmerston.

The first meeting of the two sides back in August resulted in a 3 -2 win, our first league victory of the season. Ally Roy opened the scoring midway through the first half before former Queens midfielder Kyle Jacobs levelled on the half hour mark. Jacobs scored at the wrong end to restore our lead and Ruben Soares Junior extended the advantage before Morton pulled one back with seven minutes remaining after Sol Brynn let the ball slip from his hands when challenged by Alan Lithgow.

As things stand, we are 7th in the table on 9 points while Morton sit 9th with three points less.

Looking ahead to the game, Manager Allan Johnston said “To come away from Ayr last week without anything is disappointing. I felt we were the better team and with the effort the players put into the game the least they deserved was a draw.

It’s fine margins in football, especially In the Championship so we need to work on finishing teams off when we are on top.

Last weekend rounded off the first quarter. We sit on 9 points but on reflection we could well have had more. Our performances have been decent, and we haven’t been far away. We should’ve taken something from all our games and could probably be at least another five points better off. We know there is stuff to work on but overall, I can’t be too disappointed with the players. We are getting stronger and I think we will keep improving.

a big week ahead for us starting with Morton at home. going to be a hard game; they will be fighting for their lives as well. It would be nice to get the three points from that to set us up for trips to Hamilton and Kilmarnock our other games in the space of seven days”.

Supporters Information

With the Championship clubs all reaching an agreement to maintain red zones there will still be no changes to arrangements within the stadium for either spectators or players. Both clubs will continue to operate 2m social distancing within the playing squads due to the requirements for isolations should a player test positive, especially in the light of the fact that not all players are fully vaccinated.

Therefore, HOME supporters will still be located within the BDS stand and Oakbank terrace. With away fans accommodated in sections 7 and 8 in the East section of the BDS Stand.

To gain entry to the stand - Home supporters should use turnstiles 1 & 2 while away fans should use turnstiles 3 & 4. Entry to the Oakbank Terrace will be via turnstiles 16 & 17 only. Please note there will be no movement between the stand and terrace so please take care to use the correct turnstiles.

It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

As far as we are aware there are no ongoing roadworks currently around Dumfries that may affect travel times to Palmerston Park. Fans should check the Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas will be open for use. Pre-match refreshments are available in the Arena before kick-off at our pop-up bar.

All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue, this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.
