Queens completed a successful pre-season with a 3-1 away win at Hamilton Accies this afternoon.

With news emerging this morning of the death of former goalkeeper Andy Goram, along with the death of former manager Drew Busby yesterday, there was a sombre mood in the ground at kick off and a Minute's Silence was observed in memory of Goram who had also played very briefly for the home side and had acted as their goalkeeper coach for a period also.

Queens made two changes to the starting eleven which beat Raith Rovers on Wednesday. Kieran McKechnie came in for Dave McKay, which meant Ciaran McKenna dropping in to the back three, whilst Lee Connelly's reward for scoring the winner as a sub on Wednesday was a start in place of Harry Cochrane who dropped to the bench.

Queens started very brightly and took the lead after just ten minutes when McKechnie made for the by-line before cutting the ball back to Connor Murray, whose deft backheel flick rolled into the corner of the net past a stranded Ryan Fulton. Accies didn't take terribly long though to equalise. They did so about 10 minutes later when Andy Winter had far too much space to turn home at the near post from another cut back. There were chances at both ends before the interval but half time arrived with the score still level.

Unusually for a friendly there were not a lot of early second half changes and the match continued to be relatively even. Ruari Paton spurned a great chance to re-take the lead when he failed to beat Fulton or square to the unmarked McKechnie when clean through on goal. However, with quarter of an hour remining he made up for it by causing Queen's second goal. He won possession out wide and made towards goal along the by-line. His cut back struck Fulton and deflected back to roll agonisingly into the keeper's own net at the far post.

Youngsters Ryan Muir and Lewis Gibson in particular were impressive in the remaining time and both were involved as Queens clinched the win, Gibson's ultimate through ball being converted from wide left by Lee Connelly.

Next Saturday sees Annan Athletic as visitors in the first Premier Sports Cup group match at Palmerston.
