Match Preview v Stranraer 26th July

Jul 25 2025 15:00

We round off our Premier Sport League Cup group matches tomorrow with a trip along the A75 to face Stranraer. Neither side can qualify for the knockout stages of the competition but it will still be a competitive game.

The two sides faced each other in the league cup seven years ago in what proved to be a high scoring game at Palmerston. Chris McGowan and Luke Donald had The Blues two goals up in the first ten minutes but three goals in as many minutes just before half time from Gary Harkins, Stephen Dobbie and Lyndon Dykes gave Queens a 3-2 lead at the interval. Andy Stirling added a fourth before Kyle Turner pulled one back for the visitors and Dobbs rounded off the scoring in our 5-3 victory.

Looking ahead to the match tomorrow, Manager Peter Murphy said, “With three tough games in a short space of time, some of the boys are tired so we will maybe look to rest one or two, but because we don't have the biggest squad we can't rest everybody, but we will rest where we can.

We can no longer qualify but it will still be an important fixture as we build up towards the start of the league, which even before these cup games was our main goal.”
