Good win for the U17s v Morton

Apr 12 2026 14:27

Queens under 17s produced a very convincing performance this morning when they faced Morton at Palmerston. The two sides played just three weeks ago when the Greenock side won 4-1 but they boys avenged that today when they ran out 5-2  winners.

The young side started the game brightly and could have been 2-0 up through Lewis White but the Morton goalkeeper pulled off a couple of great saves. Then against the run of play, the visitors took the lead with a well worked goal. However, It was third time lucky for White when he outfought the defender and rattled a shot towards goal from a very tight angle to level the game.

Queens then raced into a two goal lead through the ever dangerous William Salfenmoser, with two well worked goals from defence to attack.

But Morton reduced the deficit on the stroke of half time to make it 3-2 at the interval.

Half Time: Queens 3 Morton 2

The second half was more even with both teams playing to their strengths in keeping the ball. Queens restored their two goal advantage when White snatched the ball 45-yards out and closed in on goal to finish calmly into the corner.

Morton enjoyed a good spell in the game but Queens limited their chances and the scoring was rounded off when Shaun Dinnin floated a free-kick into the box and Salfenmoser headed over the goalkeeper for his hatrick.

Full Time: Queens 5 Morton 2

Coach Ross Newlands said “Overall it was a very good team performance, we were clinical when we needed to be and defended well throughout. The boys can be very proud of their efforts as we have a number of players carrying knocks and niggles. We now have a free week which will allow us time to rest and recover.”
