The Under 17s have had a couple of games in the past seven days.
Last Thursday, they welcomed Airdrie to Palmerston in the league. Having played them in the cup just a few weeks ago, they knew it would be a tough game. The match started frantically with both sides creating opportunities but the visitors gained control and took a two goal lead. Queens received a lifeline on the stroke of halftime when William Salfenmoser was upended in the box and he converted the penalty himself.
A change in shape at half time turned the game in Queens’ favour and they put on a superb second half performance and Lewis White equalised ten minutes after the break. They created plenty of chances but they couldn’t make them count and had to settle for a point.
On Tuesday night, they made a long trip north to Perth for a 7pm kick off. The journey didn't affect the players though as they enjoyed the better of the opening 25 minutes. Their play was rewarded when Hodgson went on a great overlapping run from full back and crossed for Salfenmoser who headed home.
However, in a crazy two minute spell following slack play both in and out of possession Queens found themselves 2-1 down. To their credit they responded positively before the interval and another well-worked move, this time down the left hand side was finished at the back post by Lewis White.
The second half started even with both sides creating chances. It was the home side who made it 3-2 before Queens regained control of the game and ended the stronger side. Salfenmoser secured his hat-trick in the final quarter of an hour when he converted two penalties to seal a fine away win for the team.
His three goals means William has scored 20 goals in 15 league games this season and currently sits top of the scoring charts.
