U19s lose at Airdrie

In our latest U19 CAS League match we lost by the odd goal in seven at Airdrie.

Making the step up from the 17s William Salfenmoser continued his goalscoring run with a goal after eleven minutes but the home side scored twice to hold a half-time lead.

They added a third two minutes after the restart before extending their lead in the 66th minute.

Five minutes later Salfenmoser scored his second of the night to reduce the deficit and Callum Hill found the net with a free-kick from 25-yards with just under fifteen minutes remaining.

The boys pushed in the final ten minutes but couldn’t manage an equaliser and the hosts held out to win 4-3.

Coach Neil Sturrock said “It was another very young team on the field as we bolstered the side with some trialists and a few of the under 17s. The boys did very well at times scoring good goals. They never gave up and worked really hard as they went toe to toe with an older more experienced Airdrie side.

We are obviously disappointed in the goals that we lost but we have to take lots of positives from the performance of the players who have stepped up a level which is what we are looking for as we continue to progress.”
