Interim manager Wullie Gibson took training for the first time this morning and had the following to say after.
"I had a chat with the lads this morning and they have trained well. We're all disappointed to see Allan and Sandy leave but we understand football is a results business and our results haven't been good enough this season. We're now all focussed on pulling together to get ourselves out of the position we are in. Since I took over I've been flooded with messages from supporters and football contacts alike wishing me good luck and I appreciate it all. As regards a squad update I'd like to provide the following information on players who have been absent lately.
Udoka Chima - Udoka recently returned to training following a long term absence with a thigh problem and was on the bench on Saturday. He needs to build up his fitness though having not played for so long and we'll be trying to get him game time in the Reserve fixtures over the next few weeks.
Paul McKay - Paul has a hip problem which has not responded well to rest and rehab. He has been to see two different consultants, including one in London last week, and he is now booked in for surgery towards the end of this month. Whilst the consultant is confident that the procedure should be successful and a recovery should be reasonably quick, we have to realistically accept he's unlikely to return to first team consideration this season.
Harry Cochrane - Harry has an ankle injury sustained in training in December. His recovery has not been as quick as we'd hoped and this is now undergoing further investigation, the outcome of which will guide his return to the squad.
Niyah Joseph & Lee Connelly - Niyah had an ankle injury which has kept him out of the last few matches whilst Lee has a foot problem which kept him out of Saturday's game at Morton. We're expecting both players to return to training later this week.
Roberto Nditi - Roberto has been dealing with a knee problem for a few weeks now but it swelled up this week and is now also undergoing further assessment to see how long he may be out for.
I will keep you updated as and when there are any updates on the squad. In the meantime I look forward to seeing as many fans as possible at Palmerston on Saturday for the Arbroath game. We need to pull together on and off the pitch and we very much appreciate your support. Thank you."
