Match Preview v Montrose (H) - 24th Feb

Feb 23 2024 15:39

Montrose are the visitors to Palmerston tomorrow for an evening kick off. In our two games so far this season, it’s one win apiece, with the visitors claiming the three points at Palmerston and us reversing that at Links Park.

The game in Dumfries took place at the beginning of September, Aiden Quinn and Craig Brown fired Montrose into a two-goal lead before Kieran McKechnie and Lewis Gibson pulled us back level only for Brown to grab his second and the winner.

We made the trip in early December and produced our best performance of the season in a 4-1 win. Doubles from Lee Connelly and Alex Ferguson had us well out of site at half time before Craig Brown scored a late consolation.

It’s a big game for us in terms of making the play-offs as Montrose currently sit 4th in the table, 7 points better off.

Ahead of the game tomorrow, Manager Mavin Bartley said “Our last two games have been away from home and although both ended in draws, they were contrasting feelings.

At Kelty Hearts the players left nothing on the park and put in a shift that deserved more than the point. While last week at Edinburgh City far too many players had the wrong attitude and it showed on the pitch. It was another point, but it should have been three.

This weekend’s game has a later kick off due to being televised. But it’s the same process for us, we need to be switched on from the start as Montrose are a side that we need to keep in touch with to make the playoffs.

We have the ability to hurt teams, but we have to have the right focus, attitude, and mentality to go with it. We need to show that this evening and pick up maximum points”.
